INTRODUCTION
HELLO
This is my first entry in a blog about my favorite movies. I had thought about blogging for a long time, but there were a couple of things stopping me. First, I was writing a novel and spent all my writing time on it (I am in the process of cleaning it up and locating a publisher now). Second, I didn’t feel I had enough information on anything to share about it. I’m a terrible cook; don’t have any small children; hate arts and crafts; and all my home DIY projects (wood repair, electrical repair, concrete repair, etc.) generally turn out ok but look awful. Then one day I was struggling to find a movie to stream on TV and not having any luck. I can remember griping, “I have a better selection than this right here in my own living room.” And that’s when it hit me, the one thing I do with my hard-earned money, the one thing I spend hours looking for on the internet, the one thing I always want for Christmas…Movies. Not just any, mind you, but the unusual flicks that are either hard to find or widely forgotten. Some were Oscar winners, others were made-for-tv, and a few went straight to VHS or DVD depending on the era, but they all had something in common, they intrigued me: Anna to the Infinite Power (HBO), Powwow Highway (Indie), Echoes in the Darkness (made for TV), and Klute (Oscar winner) are all loves of mine. The movies that drive me the craziest, however, are those I can see in my mind’s eye but can’t recall the titles of. I’ll be blogging about them from time to time in hopes that one of my readers will be able to help me identify them. I also will occasionally include films with meanings I just couldn’t work out. For example, I can still remember sitting through the full three hours of Magnolia only to think at the end, “What just happened?” Other movies I will include are those I won’t watch again, not because they weren’t any good, some were very good, but because they had such unhappy endings (for no reason I could see) that they left me totally traumatized (Reference: The Spitfire Grill). Lastly, I encourage you readers to share the movies you love as I am always looking for something new to watch. (Caveat: no porn please. I have nothing against that particular genre, I am just easily embarrassed.) Anyway, that’s about all I have time for right now, so I’ll close here and look forward to talking to you next week about Dark Star, a film which seemed like a good place to start as it goes with the Blog’s sci fi motif. Until then, when you watch a movie, eat some popcorn for me.
